Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo, located in Haa, Bhutan, are two revered temples that hold immense cultural and religious significance in the region. Lhakhang Karpo, also known as the White Temple, and Lhakhang Nagpo, the Black Temple, are twin temples that stand side by side, representing the duality of Bhutanese spirituality.
Lhakhang Karpo, believed to have been built in the 7th century, is a beautiful white temple adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant paintings. It is dedicated to the Drolma (Tara), the female deity associated with compassion and protection.
In contrast, Lhakhang Nagpo, the Black Temple, is dedicated to the male deity Jowo Jampa (Maitreya), the future Buddha. It is believed to have been built in the 8th century and is known for its ancient relics and sacred artifacts.
